Visitor Parking

General Visitor Parking 

During the academic semester, parking on grounds can be limited. University events may impact parking around Grounds. Payments for parking can be made via the ParkMobile app.

Central Grounds Garage 

The Central Grounds Garage is conveniently located under the University Bookstore at 400 Emmet Street, and is near Newcomb Hall, Memorial Gymnasium, Brown College, and the Clemons Library. Hourly parking may be paid via the ParkMobile app.

Overnight parking is not permitted. Visitors needing overnight parking accommodations may purchase a temporary BLUE permit to park in the lots at John Paul Jones Arena. Please contact the Parking and Transportation Office at parking@virginia.edu or by calling 434-924-7231 for more information.

Temporary Parking Permits 

Visitors and guests visiting for multiple days or longer may purchase a Temporary Blue Permit from the Parking and Transportation Office by completing the form HERE

Single day or infrequent parking can be purchased via ParkMobile. https://parking.virginia.edu/parkmobile 

Hourly Parking

Hourly locations have a two-hour limit and accept payment through ParkMobile. View our guide to using the ParkMobile app or paying by phone.

Multi-space meters (which accept payments made by ParkMobile) are available for visitors of the North Grounds Recreation Center, Observatory Hill Dining Facility, Slaughter Recreation Center, and the Aquatic and Fitness Center (AFC).

ADA Accessible Parking & Paths

ADA parking spaces are first come, first serve. If an ADA space is not available, vehicles with a DMV issued placard or license plate may park in a metered space for up to 4 hours.

New Employees 

Academic Employee Orientation: Visit the Grounds for Success website for more information

Health System Team Member Orientation: New employees will receive a temporary Blue parking permit to park in the lots at John Paul Jones Arena (JPJ) prior to orientation. 

University Department Guest Parking 

Departments wishing to cover the cost of visitors and guests may do so via Promo Codes. Please fill out the parking coupon request form HERE to begin the process. Please note that department guest codes are not meant for employees or students. 

University Buildings with Customer Parking 

The following buildings have dedicated parking for customers. Parking is limited and subject to change. University events may impact parking, contact each department for additional details.

  • Cabell Hall Box Office (15 minutes) 
  • Carruthers Hall (2 hours) 
  • Culbreth Theater Box Office (15 minutes) 
  • Darden Inn (obtain pass from receptionist)
