Parking at UVA
Parking at UVA is limited. Except at meters or in attended lots, all staff, faculty, students, and other University affiliated personnel must purchase and display parking permits on their vehicles in order to park in University-controlled areas. Parking permit fees cover only a percentage of the cost to build, maintain, and enforce a parking space.
Parking permit prices are listed on our rates page.
Thinking of giving up your parking permit in favor of walking, biking, carpooling or public transit? You could receive the following benefits:
Reduction or Elimination of parking permit cost. Registered carpools receive discounts on their monthly permits. UVA student, staff and faculty members may ride UTS, CAT and the Route 29 express free of charge with their ID.
- The option to purchase occasional or temporary parking permits.
- Preferred parking locations.
Occasional Parking Permits
Many students, staff, and faculty find they do not need to purchase a regular parking permit! Those who normally bike, walk, or take public transit, can purchase Occasional Parking Permits to allow them to use their vehicle when they are unable to bike or walk (i.e. bad weather days, running late, etc.). The Occasional Parking Program is open to all upperclassmen students, faculty, and staff. Employees who carpool can receive free Occasional Parking Permits each year.
