DMV-Issued Disability Plate or Placard
DMV-issued disability plates and placards are honored in disability stalls in Central, West, and North Grounds, and in event disability parking (exception: visit UVA Athletics for specifics regarding football). Disability stalls in the Health System are reserved for patients and hospital visitors. Employee use requires special exception (see below). Students, academic employees, and Health System Team members should review the applicable section below.
Parking for People with Disabilities
Students Parking in Academic Lots: Students must contact Student Health for proper form. Form must be submitted via email to email@example.com. Student are required to purchase a UVA parking permit to obtain an on Grounds disability permit.
Students with a permanent or temporary disability may submit requests to the Student Disability Access Center for reserved parking permits. SDAC representatives will work with P&T on options.
A request for close-in parking in Central, North, and West Grounds due to a temporary or permanent medical condition and/or disability requires a parking permit for the specific lot and the fees for that lot apply. Employees Parking in Academic Lots: Employees must submit a note from their doctor requesting close in parking. Note must contain a start and end date and then be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Employees are required to purchase a UVA parking permit to obtain an on Grounds disability permit.
Health System Team Members
A request for close-in parking within the Health System parking areas due to a medical condition and/or disability requires a parking permit for the specific Health System lot. Employees must contact the Health System Parking Office to request the forms required for a permit based on medical need. This permit is issued by the Department of Parking and Transportation once the application has been approved. A permit is issued to provide parking in a Health System reserved lot in accordance with a physician's recommendation. If an employee has a DMV issued Disabled Parking Placard, a permit for a reserved lot in the Health System area is also required.
