Eligibility

A retired University of Virginia faculty member who has received the rank of emeritus as conveyed by the Board of Visitors, and who is no longer routinely studying, researching, or working at UVA, may obtain a GOLD parking permit at no charge. Gold parking permits are issued to the original recipient and are not transferrable to surviving family members.

Please bring the Board of Visitors confirmation letter to the Parking and Transportation Office during regular business hours to obtain your GOLD permit. After the initial issue of the permit, GOLD permits will be renewed annually through the mail.

Parking Privileges

GOLD permits are honored in most parking lots on Grounds that have 25 or more parking spaces (see exceptions below):

  • Brandon Avenue/South Lawn Area (K2)
  • U.Va Health System (All M and U Lots)
  • Metered Spaces (including those at U.Va fitness/recreation centers)
  • Access Controlled Garages (Emmet/Ivy Garage, Lee Street Garage, Souh Garage on Crispell Drive, 11th Street Garage, Central Grounds Garage)
  • Individually Marked Spaces (Department Spaces, Service Spaces, Visitors Spaces, etc.)
  • Accessible Parking Spaces without a valid DMV issued parking placard

Enforcement Information/Exceptions

GOLD permit holders must adhere to all Parking Regulations and Restrictions, and are subject to ticketing and towing if found in violation of these policies.

Parking permits can be revoked at the discretion of the University if the permit holder has been proven to abuse his/her privilege. Fraudulent misuse by display of a lost, stolen, or counterfeited permit is punishable by administrative fine and total revocation of parking privilege. Parking permits are the property of the University and may be physically removed from the bearer's vehicle by U.Va representatives if the permit is not voluntarily returned upon revocation.

Event Impacts

GOLD permit holders parked in lots such as U-Hall, JPJ Surface Lot or Garage, or the lots at Scott Stadium will be required to vacate these lots by the posted time for special events such as home Football Games or concerts/acts at the John Paul Jones Arena.
