Parking and Transportation Operating Status

COVID-19 Rider Guide

To continue UVA's commitment to safety for all, UVA Health and University Transit Service (UTS) have developed a new rider guide for bus passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic. New passenger protocols have been instituted regarding number of passengers, boarding, seating, and face coverings. View the rider guide here.

Fall 2020

UTS Routes are being redesigned to emphasize transit from more distant points and to feature McCormick Road as a walking path. Service hours will be changed to allow for proper overnight cleaning of transit buses. View information on all UTS routes and schedules.

    Safe Ride

    Current Status

    Safe Ride service is being provided by Yellow Cab of Charlottesville.

    Safe Ride currently operates from 10:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 7 days per week.

    There is no change to the Safe Ride service area of operation.

    These changes are effective through at least August 17, 2020.

    Fall 2020

    Safe Ride will continue to operate 10:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 7 days per week. The provider for Safe Ride service is TBD.

    Parking Operations

    Current Status

    Parking and Meter Restrictions

    Parking and meter restrictions are lifted in all areas except: 

    • All UVA Health parking garages including the Lee Street Garage, 11th Street Garage, South Garage on Crispell, and McLeod Garage (N)
    • Scott Stadium (Red)
    • Fontaine Research Park
    • Northridge Medical Park
    • McCormick Road 
    • Lawn Alleys
    • Elson Student Health Center

    ADA, Fire Lane, and Safety Violations will continue to be enforced. These changes are effective until further notice. Find more information about University-wide parking modifications.

    Fall 2020

    Permit Renewals

    In response to the COVID-19 impact on the University operations, Parking and Transportation has changed 2020 permit renewals. Learn more about 2020 permit renewal updates.

    • For annual employee parking permits extended to August 15, permit holders will be contacted directly by P&T in mid-July with options.
    • Anyone needing to park prior to mid-August should check the P&T operations page to determine where to park and/or ride the bus.
    • For Fall 2020, some parking designations and prices will change. Those who continue to telework but need access to Grounds occasionally will have access to new more flexible options.
    • All meter payments at recreation centers, on street, and in garages must be made via the Park Mobile app. Meters and pay stations have been removed.

    The University will not refund parking fees as a result of changes in our operations due to COVID-19. These fees cover fixed costs of these operations and enable us to continue to pay our employees.

    Customer Service

    Current Status

    Our office at 1101 Millmont is closed. Questions or concerns can be addressed to parking@virginia.edu, and we are checking voicemail at 434-924-7231. Please allow at least one business day for a response.

    Fall 2020

    • Online business functions and phone-in customer service options are being enhanced. Many services will now be available by phone and online. Please check back later for details!
    • In-person customer service will be by appointment only.
    • Parking management will shift to “park by license plate." Citations issued for vehicles in violation may be mailed or posted via US Mail rather than placed on the vehicle.
