Student Move In Fall 2024
Safety First: Parking in fire lanes, in roadways, or in ADA spaces without the appropriate credentials is prohibited at all times.
Close-in unloading is only available during your scheduled Move In appointment time. Please visit https://housing.virginia.edu/move-in-2024 for housing information. Secondary trips for supplies requiring parking should be made after 5pm.
How does Move In work?
- Show up for your Move - In appointment and unload in the lot for your dorm (see instructions below for specifics)
- Unloading close to residence halls is only available during your scheduled move-in appointment time. You will be able pull up your car in line relatively close to your building, unload, and then continue on to longer-term parking.
- Once at your building, the driver needs to stay in the car at all times.
- All student belongings should be labeled with your name and room assignment so that Greeters and UVA staff can quickly unload belongings from the car and route them to your room.
- Once you have unloaded all of your belongings, relocate your vehicle:
- Monday through Friday: You may park in the John Paul Jones Arena (285 Massie Road)
- Saturday & Sunday: You may park in the Commuter lot located next to Scott Stadium and the Student Activities Building or in the E3 Lot on Whitehead Road
- Students keeping a vehicle on Grounds may park their vehicles at the John Paul Jones Arena (285 Massie Road) until Sunday, August 20th.
- Parking in lots close to dorms is restricted by permit only after your appointment time.

Enforcement will be in effect for all lots the Monday after Move In. Failure to relocate your vehicle or abide by safety measures may result in ticketing or towing at the owner's expense.
Reminder: University policy prohibits undergraduate first-year students from having vehicles on-Grounds during their first-year (fall & spring semesters). The policy governing use of vehicles by first-year students can be found in the Undergraduate Record (http://records.ureg.virginia.edu/). First-year parking exceptions are only granted in extraordinary circumstances. Vehicles parked within permitted lots without prior approval are subject to enforcement. Parking in fire lanes, in roadways, or in ADA spaces without the appropriate credentials is prohibited at all times. Citations written for fire lane violations are $250 and are not eligible for warnings.
